Motorists should expect delays on Palani Road through March as the Hawaii County Department of Public Works works to repave about 2.5 miles of the mauka-makai thoroughfare in Kailua-Kona.

Highways Maintenance Division crews will be working from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays, weather permitting, through March 31, according to spokesman Cyrus Johnasen. The work will extend from just above Palani Road’s intersection with Ane Keohokalole Highway to its junction with Mamalahoa Highway.

Workers are currently performing maintenance work on the road’s shoulder and trimming trees in preparation for the paving work, which is slated to begin March 16.

Alternating lane closures will be in effect during work hours through March 31. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes, including Hina Lani Street.
